Winter Camino

The winter Camino - The Next Stage
Why are roadside memorials so impressive?

There are lots of different routes to Santiago de Compostela.  I’ve been on the way of the Plantagenets, the way of Tours, the way of Vezelay, and through Spain on the Camino Frances.  But now at Pontferrada there’s a choice.

The Camino Invierno or winter Camino heads a little further south through Galicia and was traditionally used when the steep pass over the mountains was blocked with snow.  Since 2015 it’s been officially recognised and signed and I’m keen to try something different.

I’m in for a shock and a treat, there’s the bloke in his slippers sharpening a machete.  Storks nest on the telegraph pole.  And plenty of things to paint…
