I’m on a Mission

August 29, 2018|News, Timmy's Travels|

I’m on a mission.
To find a bridge.
Not any bridge.
But a particular one that attracted my dad’s attention over 50 ago.

In the 1930s the author Dorothy L Sayers wrote a murder mystery about artists. She based the tale in Galloway and it’s one of her most popular who dunnits.

My dad enjoyed 5 red herrings so much her took my mum on holiday to Gatehouse of Fleet in September 1966 to see what inspired artists to visit.

In his diary he describes taking a taxi to a small Byrne and finding a bridge and woodland motif that he painted on the spot. Finishing around 4.30 he walked back over the Moors.  ‘It was a lovely day’.

My mission is to travel up to Galloway, find that bridge, and paint what the scene looks like now, 50 years later…..

Here’s Michael Mallett’s painting.
